Nano-pharmaceutical systems generally imply products that may in their own right or in combination with another moiety bring about therapeutic benefit. Nanosystems can be classified in a number of ways, for example, according to their elemental composition, according to size, structure, and function, or according to a structure-function relationship. This article focuses on the manufacture, characterization, and safety of pharmaceutical nanosystems. Keywords: nano-pharmaceutical systems; polymeric systems; quantum dots; toxicology; quantum confinement
