The study of the adsorption of an acid dye (AB-80) and of a basic dye (BR-22) has been carried out on charred woollen fibres, with a view to using that industrial waste material in the treatment of liquid effluents. The authors have first studied the dye diffusion; the diffusion of AB-80 appeared much slower than that of BR-22, due to the steric cumbersomeness of the AB-80 molecule. As a result, the temperature effect on the diffusion, owing to its influence on the dye aggregation, was clearly more pronounced for AB-80 than for BR-22; that fact was confirmed by the determination of adsorption isotherms at different temperatures. Under favourable conditions, the curves indicated satisfactory adsorption values; as they were cither of type H (AB-80) or L (Br-22), they also indicated the efficiency of the aforesaid fibres in the treatment of slightly-concentrated effluents. The above finding has been verified by a column treatment of an AB-80 solution; it then showed the very strong influence of the contact time as well as a wall effect on the effluent purification. In the study conclusion, the results obtained in the treatment of an industrial effluent in a stirred reactor are presented. L'etude de l'adsorption d'un colorant acide (AB 80) et d'un colorant basique (BR 22) sur des fibres de laine carbonisees a ete menee en vue d'utiliser ce residu industriel dans le domaine du traitement des effluents liquides. Nous avons tout d'abord etudie la diffusion des colorants. Celle du AB 80 s'est averee beaucoup plus lente que celle du BR 22 en raison de l'encombrement sterique de la molecule de AB 80. En consequence l'effet de la temperature sur la diffusion, du fait de son influence sur l'agregation des colorants, est nettement plus marque pour le AB 80 que pour le BR 22. Cela est confirme par la determination des isothermes d'adsorption pour differentes temperatures. Ces courbes font apparaǐtre des pouvoirs adsorbants satisfaisants lorsque l'on se place dans des conditions favorables. Etant par ailleurs du type H (AB 80) ou L (BR 22), elles montrent egalement l'aptitude de ces fibres de laine a traiter des effluents peu concentres. Cela a ete verifie lors du traitement d'une solution de AB 80 en colonne. Il est alors apparu une tres importante influence du temps de contact ainsi qu'un effet de paroi sur l'epuration. En conclusion de cette etude nous presentons les resultats obtenus lors du traitement d'un effluent industriel en reacteur agite.
