The most important physiological role of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is to regulate the functions of various organs, which means it aims to adapt and modulate the somatic behavior to the changing circumstances of endogenous or environmental origin. Therefore, reactions of ANS are linked to almost all the physiological and pathological conditions of the human body. In addition, there are diseases that may primarily or secondarily affect ANS. However, we have to admit that, at the moment, our knowledge of the frequency and severity of the diseases of ANS is inadequate and contradictory, which may be explained by the limited number and reliability of the diagnostic methods, but the situation is rapidly improving, and in the near future, these problems are certainly overcome.
