Lobectomy is indicated in cases of congenital lung malformations such as congenital cystic adenomatoid malformations (CPAM) intralobar sequestrations and congenital lobar emphysema. Lobectomy in children is also necessary in some cases of severe chronic or recurring infections resulting in bronchiectasis, or in acute cases of severe necrotizing pneumonia.
