Vitamin A research had its fundamental beginnings in 1909 when Steppe first described a fat-soluble principle, which proved essential for life (15). Now, more than seven decades later, a new therapeutic agent — the aromatic retinoid (Ro 10-9359) — has become available to provide dermatology with one of the most important drugs that has ever been introduced for the treatment of psoriasis. It is possible that Ro 10-9359 may replace many current agents in treating psoriasis and that the application of the retinoid as an adjuvant with anthralin or PUVA may be beneficial for the routine management of the disease in maintenance doses (16).
