Five different soils and 3 soil components were treated with bacte riocin produced by A. lipoferum 215. The activity disappeared soon after application in four soils and in humic acid preparation, but persisted in one autoclaved soil poor in organic matter and in clay minerals. A. lipoferum survived for a long period when inoculated into the soil, but no bacteriocin activity was detectable in colonized soils. No bacteriocin activity was found on roots inoculated with the producer and incubated in soil. However, some activity was detected on the inoculated and incubated root after the treatment with Tris-HCl.
