Oral “White Lesions” Other Than Leukoplakia

Expansion of knowledge and improvement in diagnostic procedures have permitted discrimination between certain lesions which grossly resemble leukoplakia, and which collectively are termed “white lesions” in the Anglo- Saxon literature. These clinico-pathological entities include lichen planus, leukoedema exfoliativum mucosae oris (white sponge naevus) and morsicatio buccarum et labiorum.
