Respiratory Activity And Cytochrome Content Of Liver Mitochondria From Diabetic Rats.
Published 1971 · Biology, Medicine
Abstract Respiratory and phosphorylating activities, and cytochrome content were determined in liver mitochondria from chronically (mildly) diabetic rats. Diabetes was induced by the administration of a law dose of alloxan and the animals showed typical diabetic changes in the activities of glucokinase and glucose-6-phosphatase. Diabetic mitochondria showed a depressed respiratory rate while the P : O ratio was within the normal range. Respiratory cytochromes were also decreased in diabetic liver mitochondria, while depressed levels were restored by the successive administration of insulin.
