Tobacco leaf proteins are well balanced, containing high levels of essential amino acids. This communication reports the content of soluble leaf protein during different stages of development, and its quality as predicted by chemical analysis and confirmed by biological evaluation. Results show tobacco leaf protein are at the top of the plant protein range in nutritive quality and thus could provide viable food by-products from the HLC process. Both Fl protein and soluble leaf proteins could be excellent supplements for cereal diets consumed by world populations.
