Graphene has led researchers to explore it due to its unprecedented physical and chemical properties. It is found that graphene, as an allotrope of carbon nanotubes, could be used to replace carbon nanotubes in the composites. It can not only enhance the composites smart features such as conductivity, electromagnetic shielding, etc, but also improves the physical properties of the composites. However, the hydrophobic property and strong van der Waals force between the layers block the uniform dispersion of graphene and keep it agglomeration in solution. The study on graphene dispersion in liquid plays an important role in its application in composite materials. Based on the existing research results, this paper reviews the methods what has been used in graphene dispersion, such as sonication, mechanical stirring, covalent modification, non-covalent modification, etc. We also give an analysis on how to obtain a stable graphene suspension in high concentration. We hope this review paper will point a rational direction for high-quality preparation of graphene suspension.
