Infants at Risk of HCV Infection As hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections appear to be increasing among women of childbearing age, public health officials worry that more infants are at risk of contracting the virus. To help determine the extent of HCV among US women of childbearing age, CDC investigators analyzed data from Quest Diagnostics’ national laboratory network. The results showed that from 2011 to 2014, the HCV detection rate increased by 22% among girls and women aged 15 to 44 years, from 139 per 100 000 women tested in the laboratory network for any reason to 169 per 100 000 (Koneru A et al. MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep. 2016;65[28]:705-710).
