This review describes recent progress in use of organosilicon compounds for fine organic synthesis. Particularly, it focuses on carbon–carbon bond-forming reactions of vinyl-, aryl-, alkynyl-, allyl-, and alkylsilanes, and silyl enolates. These silicon-protected carbon nucleophiles have frequently been used for highly regio- and stereoselective reactions with carbon electrophiles by the aid of catalysts such as Lewis acids and transition metal complexes. The developments of catalysts and catalytic systems have extensively enhanced synthetic utility of organosilicon reagents during the past decade.
