Abstract The structure, dynamics and transport behaviors of microemulsions are physicochemically unique and need exploration for basic understanding of their formation, state of aggregation, internal interaction, and stability with reference to their probable uses. In this review, the structural characteristics of microemulsions and their dynamic and transport behaviors have been presented in detail. The underlying principles of the methodologies used for the above understanding have been concisely documented and discussed. An attempt has been made to maintain minimum overlapping of the contents of one section with another. As far as practicable, an effort has been made to include relevant references of the past and present works. Our apology to those authors whose works have escaped our notice.
