Abstract A novel fullerene derivative containing a dibenzo‐18‐crown‐6 and a Schiff base linkage has been synthesized, purified and characterized using elemental analysis, FT‐IR, 1H‐NMR and MALDI mass spectra. The fulleropyrrolidine derivative thus obtained was studied for its complexing properties with certain metals ions such as Na+, K+, NH4 +, Mg+2, Ca+2, Ba+2, and Cu+2 using cyclic voltammetry. The best results were obtained with Cu+2 probably because of the presence of the Schiff base linkage. The binding constants and stoichiometry of the complexes formed were also calculated.
