The papers described in this review have been selected from material published between June 1966 and June 1967. An attempt is made here to integrate these papers within the framework of three main themes : 1. Af­ ferent projections to the corticofugal neurons; II. Some aspects of the neura l or ganiza tio ns in the motor cortex coordinating the motor outflow, with particular attention to the cortical 'mapping' of the pyramidal tract system; and III. Descending motor pathways other than the pyramidal tract, and the interneuronal mechanisms relaying supraspinal influences to moto­ neurons. These themes will be taken up in order.
