This paper deals with some of the theoretical and practical considerations underlying sensitivity trainer behavior. First, goals and assumptions of sensitivity training, in contrast to those of group psychotherapy, are examined. The concept of group process is discussed with respect to sequential tasks within the group. A three-stage model of trainer interventions is developed and the matching of appropriate trainer strategies and behavior with differential phases of group development is presented.
