El libro representa una minuciosa recopilacion de 18 capitulos que han sido discutidos y planeados conjuntamente en diversas reuniones que la red tematica GLOBIMED ha tenido durante los anos 2003 y 2004. En sus mas de 500 paginas, el libro se centra en aspectos basicos de ecologia con una preocupacion por cubrir los problemas medioambientales que ha generado y generara en un futuro el cambio global inducido directa o indirectamente por las actividades humanas. Se ha procurado mantener un tono de divulgacion alto, que permitiera seguir los contenidos a una audiencia amplia pero cuidando que las fuentes originales estuvieran bien cubiertas y que el rigor cientifico estuviera presente de principio a fin. Se ha pretendido asi llenar un gran vacio sobre un tema de enorme actualidad. Es el turno ahora de los lectores de juzgar hasta que punto el objetivo se ha alcanzado.
